What is Mad Mare all about?

Typically, a company’s Vision represents the way that they “view the company vis-à-vis the rest of the world”. In other words, “If everything is right according to us, this is the way things would be.”  Right?  Look at the people you see in our pictures?  Notice any commonalities?  No?

Mad Mare CrossFit’s Vision is that CROSSFIT IS FOR EVERYONE!

(…big, small, short, tall, fast, slow, young, old, fat, skinny, rich, poor, black, white, or chartreuse…)

A company’s Mission Statement represents how that company will approach the realization of their Vision. What steps will the company take to make their Vision a reality?

Mad Mare CrossFit’s Mission is to provide a welcoming environment to help make health and fitness accessible, easy, safe, fun & effective for EVERYONE.

Why is this our mission? Because we HONESTLY care about people and their personal goals.

Ownership

Mad Mare CrossFit

Mad Mare CrossFit is a wholly owned subsidiary of Mad Mare Inc.  99% of the common shares of Mad Mare Inc. are owned by Tony Hawranko (bald guy in the picture).  Mad Mare Inc and Mad Mare CrossFit were created out of a passion for health and well being and because the owner wanted to spend more time with the people who are most important to him.

"Mad Mare" Sounds Scary, Doesn't It?

Mad (Madeline...far right) and Mare (Mary...middle) are my two teenage daughters.  When thinking about my passions and the things I love most, "Mad Mare" just made sense.

Fitness & Health Aren't Hobbies

Fitness and health, when coupled together, alongside of a supportive community, are a way of life.

Why "The Herd"?

One of the most commonly used terms to refer to a group of horses is herd. This is because horses are social animals who exhibit herd behavior; they interact with other horses while roaming outdoors, while grazing and they move in groups when traveling from one place to another.

Box Etiquette

Welcome to Mad Mare!

To create the best environment for every person that walks through our door...

  1. Be on time. If you are five minutes early, you are on time. If a member arrives five or more minutes late, they may miss certain portions of class in order to safely perform the workout of the day. All athletes are required to do the warm up.  This will help to keep everyone safe.
  2. Keep your coach updated. Let your coach know if you are injured or if you are experiencing any pain or discomfort. We want you to be safe! It is better for us to know what’s going on so that we can modify workouts for you.
  3. Pay attention when the coach is giving instruction. Avoid having your own private conversation or doing your own thing when the coach is trying to give instruction to the class.  Please don't be a distraction for other athletes.
  4. Wait to grab equipment after your coach is done giving instruction. Please be patient. Allow your coach to give instructions and for others to have the chance to ask questions, get clarification, hear direction, and watch movement standards before grabbing equipment. It is distracting when others are talking or grabbing equipment.
  5. Refrain from coaching other athletes. We appreciate your willingness to help. If you see that someone is in need of assistance, let us know.  If you see something being done unsafely, please ask them to stop immediately until a coach can help.
  6. Personal hygiene matters.  We get it - you will sweat.  That's why you're here.  And when you're finished with your WOD, you'll likely smell a little "ripe".  The catch is - don't show up that way too.  Be mindful of your fellow athletes and coaches - if you smell you - they smell you too.
  7. Clean up after yourself. If you used it, please wipe it down and put the equipment away. Pay attention to overstacking weight trollies.  Any excess chalk on the ground should also be cleaned by whomever spilled it out of the bucket.
  8. Keep track of your personal belongings. All personal belongings must be stowed away in cubbies at the back of the gym.  Please don't keep things out on the floor or crowd the community table.
  9. Don’t drop the barbells or other equipment. Dropping an empty bar without plates or a bar with 10 pound plates is prohibited. This will damage the equipment and can be dangerous.  Dropping kettlebells and dumbbells overhead is prohibited. Please help preserve the equipment and gym space.
  10. Please protect your kids by asking them to stay in designated areas.  Kids are not allowed out on the gym floor when parents are working out (unless we have a family WOD).  We want to keep everyone safe.
  11. Stay until everyone is done.  Cheer on and help motivate your fellow athletes.  Don't clean up your equipment and walk away until your friends have finished their WOD.
